Nigeria Strengthens Global Passport Verification With ICAO Milestone

Nigeria has completed a significant e-passport security milestone: all of the country’s Country Signing Certificate Authorities (CSCAs) have been successfully imported into the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Public Key Directory (PKD).

In practical terms, the move allows foreign border control systems to cryptographically authenticate Nigerian passports in real time — confirming that a document was genuinely issued by Nigeria and has not been tampered with.

Stronger machine-verifiable credentials typically translate into smoother processing for travellers and fewer secondary inspections triggered by verification failures.
