Exporters Say NXP Integration on TTP Portal Has Cost Them Over $10m

Exporters under the Association of West African Exporters and Maritime Professionals (AWAEMAP) say they have lost more than $10 million in just five days following the Nigerian Ports Authority’s integration of the Nigeria Export Proceeds (NXP) requirement into the Truck Transit Park (TTP) portal.

In a statement signed by its president, Olubunmi Olumekun, the association said the change has introduced fresh operational bottlenecks — delaying shipments, raising compliance burdens and prolonging export turnaround times, with knock-on effects for government revenue.

The exporters’ particular worry is perishable agricultural produce: delays in accessing port terminals directly degrade quality, and missed vessel departures are becoming more frequent now that export containers must be gated into terminals at least 48 hours before departure.

AWAEMAP is urging the Federal Government to uphold the Central Bank of Nigeria’s single-window Trade Monitoring System (TRMS) portal as the consolidated oversight platform for export trade, and to stop practices it says drag exporters back to outdated protocols.

The dispute highlights a recurring tension in Nigeria’s non-oil export push: every additional checkpoint added in the name of oversight risks taxing the very exporters the country is counting on for foreign exchange diversification.
